1st post! I Tx and Rx on the Northwest repeater most of the Time. I tried to get into the Dunlay repeater recently, but it doesn’t seem to be operating. I’m using a Baofeng UV-5R 8W with a 42″ tactical antenna mounted on a tripod inside and it suits my needs for now. Xmas is right around the corner and I have something on my wish list (besides coal!).

@wsgl775-radio From where I am located off Hwy 211 about 2 miles south of Potranco, I can just reach the Dunlay repeater when I have my antenna setup outside.  From inside the house, I am not able to reach it no matter where I seem to place my antenna (either the Nagoya UT-72G or the new N9TAX Labs GMRS Slim Jim).

So I am just getting started with GMRS so I have multiple repeaters programmed into my base station at home and my HT that I keep in my truck.  From my house off HWY 211 and Potranco I can really only reach the SA GMRS Northwest repeater and sometimes the DUNLAY repeater out between Castroville and Hondo.  Those are the only two repeaters that I have actually been able to talk to anyone on.  The Northwest repeater I can hear loud and clear.  My current base station setup is a Radioddity DB25-G mobile radio and a Nagoya UT-72G antenna.  I have a N9TAX Labs Slim Jim antenna that should be here later this week so I will see if that improves my range and ability to hit other repeaters.

@wsgl775-radio I have had nothing but problems with trying to program the DS25-G with either the included cable or by purchasing the BTECH FTDI cable, so I have changed over to the Radioddity DS20-G and that has fixed all of those problems.  I thought I would miss having 4 listening channels but honestly, I am usually just on 2 channels at a time, so I haven’t even noticed.  And the fact that I have the ability to program in up to 500 channels to listen in to Ham repeaters in the area is nice.  My use case is going to be having this radio as an emergency communication method should I need it.
