1. What you’ll need
Before you start, make sure you have:
- A compatible TIDRADIO device (for GMRS/PoC) that works with the ODMaster app. (Google Play)
- A smartphone or tablet (Android or iOS) with ODMaster installed. (App Store)
- The radio powered on and connected (via Bluetooth) if required. The ODMaster manual notes you’ll need the Bluetooth programmer device when programming channels. (Manuals+)
- The information for the SA GMRS PoC channel (channel number, frequency or internal network group name) so you can join it.
2. Downloading & setting up your account
Here’s how to create your account in ODMaster:
A. Download the app
- On Android: go to Google Play and install “Odmaster – Apps on Google Play”. (Google Play)
- On iOS: go to the App Store and install “Odmaster”. (App Store)
B. Launch the app and create an account
- Open ODMaster.
- Tap “Create Account” or “Sign up”. (You might also see “Sign In”, if you already have an account.) The web version shows “CREATE ACCOUNT”. (web.odmaster.net)
- Enter your email (recommended) and set a password. Verify via email if prompted.
- Log in using your new credentials.
C. Configure your profile / permissions
- After login, you may want to fill in your user profile: name, nickname, photo (if the social community features matter to you).
- On some devices you’ll need to grant Bluetooth, location (for nearby device detection) or push-to-talk permissions.
- Make sure Bluetooth is enabled before trying to pair devices. The manual warns: do not first pair the programmer in the phone’s Bluetooth settings; instead open ODMaster and pair inside the app. (Manuals+)
3. Connecting your radio and app (for PoC / channel access)
Since you are seeking to log into the SA GMRS PoC channel, you’ll want to ensure your radio and app are ready to communicate via that channel.
A. Pairing the radio
- If your radio uses a Bluetooth “programmer” dongle (with TIDRADIO) then plug that in and turn it on; ensure the indicator light is green. (Manuals+)
- In ODMaster: go to the device connection section, choose your radio model, and select “Pair” or “Connect”.
- If you skipped pairing incorrectly in the phone’s Bluetooth settings you may run into issues (see manual’s tip).
B. Selecting a channel or group
Because the PoC function in ODMaster (and the TIDRADIO device) supports talking over a data link / PTT network rather than only traditional GMRS simplex frequencies, you’ll want to:
- Identify the “SA GMRS” PoC channel: this might be a group name inside the network, or a channel pre-programmed in the radio.
- In ODMaster, possibly join that channel/group in the “Talk” or “Group” section: some versions support “Add friends”, “Group chat”, etc. (Reddit)
- On the radio: ensure you’ve selected the correct POC mode (if the device allows switching between GMRS radio mode vs PoC mode). If it’s in GMRS radio-mode only, you may need to enable the network/PoC features first.
C. Writing / synchronizing settings
- In ODMaster, after selecting the model and channel/group, you may need to write settings to the radio: the manual says: select model → add parameters → write channel information → connect Bluetooth programmer → read from radio → write. (Manuals+)
- Wait for the “Write complete” confirmation in the app.
- On the radio, confirm that the selected channel or group is active and you can access it (often via screen display, or scanning list).
4. Logging in / joining the SA GMRS POC channel
Now that your account is set up, radio connected, settings written — you can log into the specific channel:
- In the ODMaster app, go to its PoC or talk section (this might be labelled “Talk”, “Group Chat”, “Channels”, “PoC”.)
- Search or locate the “SA GMRS” channel/group by name (or via a group ID) and tap “Join” or “Connect”. Some channels might require approval. The version update notes mention “public groups and private groups. Access to private groups requires approval.” (odmaster.apps112.com)
- On your radio: change its mode to the same channel. If your radio has a display of channel names/IDs, pick the one you just programmed.
- Test: press the PTT (Push-to-Talk) button in the app or on the radio to speak. Ensure you’re audible and that others in the SA GMRS channel can hear you.
- If you can’t hear others: check microphone & speaker settings, volume, network/data connection (for PoC network), and ensure your radio is properly linked/paired with the app.
5. Tips & best practices
- Make sure your radio firmware and the ODMaster app are up to date. The app update logs show new features and device support being added frequently. (Facebook)
- If you are using a GMRS-licensed frequency (traditional GMRS operation) rather than PoC over cellular/data, remember you still must abide by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules (license, power limits, etc). (Tidradio)
- For best audio quality and reliability: ensure strong cellular/data coverage (for PoC), use the correct channel/group, ensure no heavy interference, and keep the radio’s battery charged.
- If you are new to PoC (Push-to-Talk over Cellular) vs standard radio: the blog from TIDRADIO explains the difference and that PoC allows communication over large distances via the network. (Tidradio)
- If you run into issues: check the Help Center in the ODMaster app, contact support (e-mail listed) or consult the online manual. (Google Play)
6. Example scenario
Here’s how it might look in practice:
Jane downloads ODMaster on her Android phone, signs up with her email, and logs in. She powers on her TIDRADIO handheld, enables Bluetooth on her phone, and in ODMaster pairs the radio.
She goes to the “Groups” section in ODMaster and searches for “SA GMRS”. She taps “Join”.
In the radio’s menu she selects Channel “SA GMRS” (or the ID she programmed). She presses the PTT and says “Hello SA GMRS, this is Jane checking in.”
Someone else in the channel responds. She adjusts volume, ensures network data is strong, and uses the group chat feature in the app too.
